Synopsis: After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind. . . and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own. Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence. This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking.
Review: I have been looking forward to this book since I saw it listed as a goodreads giveaway a few months ago, alas I did not win that giveaway so I had to wait. And after being in the library wait lost I finally got my hands on it and I am so happy I did! This book was absolutely adorable and it was a really good analysis of friendship, love and how fame can destroy or create them both. This book follows Reagan, who's best friend is a country superstar (think Taylor swift) Dee or Lilah as she's known to the world. After a particularly hard break up Dee invites Reagan on her tour so they can spent the whole summer having girl talk. But after a fake nude photo scandal erupts, treating Dee's career, the record label thinks up a way to deter the bad press. Enter Matt Finch, former member of the Finch Four (basically Hanson with a sister.) problem is, Matt is supposed to be fake dating Dee, which is a problem because he only has eye for Reagan. The summer the girls spent on tour is roller coaster of love, heartbreak and mending the wounds you didn't know you had.
What I Liked: Matt, i absolutely adored him and his flirty banter and buckets of charm.it seems to be a recurring theme with me, but i really do just love most of the love interests in books, especially contemporary ones. Surprisingly i also really liked Reagan, i have a really hard time normally connecting to female characters but i did like her a lot. The family dynamic between Dee and her parents and brothers as well as the dynamic between Reagan, her dad and stepmother, it was very realistic. The touring lifestyle, i'm obviously no expert on how that works but for what we were given it seemed pretty realistic to me.
What I Didn't Like: Dee really annoyed me, i understood her position but at the same time she was so lucky to be where she was in her career and all she did was complain. I also found the side plot of the Dee/Jimmy relationship to be totally pointless in the grand scheme of things and it literally did nothing to push the plot along or forward except make Dee miserable. There were also a few small scenes (such as Dee getting drunk) that really had no effect on the plot, they were mentioned again one time in passing and that's it, Lord had the option of turning the photo into another scandal but she didn't, probably for good reason because Dee was about on scandal away from cracking.
